Editor's Verdict:

Photocheap is a very basic online photo sharing service that puts an emphasis on trying to sell you prints of photos you have uploaded. The design of the whole site is fairly uninspiring and the numerous glaring spelling and grammar errors throughout the text gives a very unprofessional impression. Furthermore, the uploading process is not exactly intuitive and the whole thing is generally just very buggy.

Uploading photos to your account with Photocheap can be a real pain in the neck and we wouldn't recommend it to anyone. There are two options available: either using the web based tool or downloading an application for your PC (not Mac). The web based tool worked, but was very slow and prone to giving up half way through a photo. The desktop tool was not much better and was a bit difficult to configure, but eventually did perform slightly better than the web based method. Photocheap claim that you have 20Gb of space available to upload your photos, but we would be surprised if anyone has had the patience to fill it!

Photocheap makes a distinction between two types of album - an online album and a print album. We should warn you not to make the mistake we did and upload photos to the wrong album. It's fine to move photos from the online album to the print album, but for some strange reason you can't go the other way, which could try your patience even more than uploading in the first place. If we were cynical we might think it was strange that you can only move photos from the online to the print album and that is also how you order prints from Photocheap.

Prints can be ordered direct to your door from Photocheap at reasonable enough prices. However, in our opinion the prices aren't cheaper enough compared with those of the main competitors in the market to make us put up with the poor quality web site. Basic personalized gifts are also available, such as T-shirts, stickers and albums.

In our opinion Photocheap offers a poor service for both photo sharing and print ordering. It lacks the ease of use and quality we would expect from anyone thinking about competing in the marketplace. There are far better sites out there that don't cost much more than this for prints or membership. For some good places to start looking why not have a look at some of the entries in our top ten.
