Editor's Review:

ThisLife seems to provide for two different groups of clientele: family and friends, and businesses. The site offers a place for you to store unlimited photos and upload a number of home videos, which is great for families. However this could also be of great benefit to companies who wish to share videos of events with their clients or partners.

The first thing which is really impressive about This Life is that all members, paying or free, are able to upload unlimited photos. This is really great as there are no limits and you can really use it to keep all of your precious photos. If you want to upload videos, however, you will need to pay.

Video fans will need to upgrade their account. However, prices are pretty low, and you can get up to 60GB of storage (which you can think of as 30 videos of 2GB each, since 2GB is the upload limit for a single file) for around $20 a year. If you have the money to spare and wish to upload a vast number (unlimited) of videos then you can do this for around $140 a year, which still seems pretty reasonable. In particular this might be useful to film makers, film students or any organization which likes to film and store relevant materials from meetings, events and more.

Once you’ve registered, you can upload and access your photos from the dashboard. This looks easy to use, although we did struggle to find what we were looking for at times. Uploads are also a little slow for our liking, but if you’re patient, then it’s simple enough.

As well as creating digital content such as slideshows with voice overs, you can use your photos to create bespoke photo gifts. These include calendars, magnets, books and more, although the range isn’t quite as impressive as we’ve seen elsewhere. Still, it’s good to have the option there.

There are a few nice additional features such as facial recognition and geo-tagging, which add a bit more bang for your buck (even if you’re a free member!) You don’t find these everywhere, so it’s great to have the options. Information is a little spread out around the site, but you can find it with a little persistence. There are also several tutorial videos which explain how to perform basic tasks if you need some advice.

There are a few niggles, such as upload times and a sometimes-mystifying dashboard, which we’d like to see sorted out. Over all, though, we felt that ThisLife.com offers a pretty special service for its free members, and could come in useful if you need to store unlimited photos or videos.
