Atpic is a very basic photo sharing web site that doesn't include all the bells and whistles you get with some of the better known names around. However, it is a decent attempt and there are enough features to be going on with if all you need is just somewhere to show off a few photos. The service is completely free so we can't complain too much, but there are definitely a few things that Atpic could improve on.
The first of these is the upload procedure for initially getting some photos onto your account. There are only two options available: use the web upload mechanism or upload via FTP. The web upload mechanism is painfully basic and only allows you to upload photos one at a time so it can take a long time to start a gallery. FTPing photos to your account works fine, but many users either won't know what FTP is or won't want the hassle of using an FTP client to upload (For those who don't know, FTP is a protocol for transferring files that generally requires you to use a third party application for best effect). Although both of these methods get you there in the end, it would be nice to see a more user friendly upload process.
With some photos uploaded to your account you are free to share the URL with your friends and family so that they can view your galleries - without even signing up for an account. However, even better, and probably one of the best features of the site, is that you can create an all singing, all dancing 3D slideshow of your photos. This works through an open source plug-in that the site's developers take advantage of, but is surprisingly easy to use and looks great. If you think you have enough interested parties you can also create an RSS feed of all your updates that people can subscribe to and instantly see your new photos.
The design of Atpic could certainly do with an overhaul. The main page looks very amateurish and there is no option to apply different styles or designs to your galleries. The language used around the site also needs tidying up and the grammatical and spelling errors removed. With just a few simple adjustments the user experience could be vastly improved.
Atpic is fine as a basic photo sharing site, but if you are looking for lots of good looking and user friendly features we would recommend going for one of the sites in our top ten. New users especially will struggle with the upload process and might also find it a bit difficult to navigate the site. However, the whole thing is free so it might be worth giving it a try to see if you can put up with the small flaws here and there.
