Fotki is a fun and simple way of sharing your photos online. It promotes member participation in various different ways and has an active community of enthusiastic amateur photographers. You can also order prints online with your membership along with personalized photo gifts. Fotki has its flaws but all in all is a pretty good photo sharing service.
Uploading photos to Fotki is a fairly easy process using the web based uploader tool on offer. It can handle multiple files at once and is designed to be easy to use. While it does the job ok we have seen better offerings from other web sites that offer more fully featured uploader tools. On the same note there are no plug-ins on offer for applications like Google Picassa or Apple's iPhoto - which is something many other sites offer. However, it is still easy enough to get your photos uploaded to the site.
Once uploaded you can begin to organize your photos into albums and take advantage of some of the community features on offer at Fotki. We particularly like the regular photo contests that are hosted by Fotki and voted for by members - they occasionally even have prizes you can win. Another thing we particularly liked is the availability of an app for Google Android mobile phones. There aren't too many sites offering this yet and it's likely to become a big thing in the near future. It's also good to see Fotki has a fairly active community so you are likely to find others with the same interests to share your photos with.
Regardless of whether you opt for a basic membership or a premium membership Fotki allows you to order prints of your favourite photos online. The prices for this are pretty reasonable so it's a worthwhile feature to have. If you go for the premium membership you also get a few advanced features, such as unlimited uploads, for a very reasonably priced annual subscription.
Fotki is a decent photo sharing service and offers a fun environment to share your photos and find other members with similar interests. The site design might be a bit busy for some people - especially as it is ad-supported, but on the whole it looks ok. A free membership is available and you get a 30 day free trial of a premium membership if you sign up for one so Fotki is definitely worth a few minutes of your time.
