The editorial review is a little unfair in that it faults Ipernity for not providing services which Ipernity itself does not claim to want to offer - for example 'photo editing'... I suspect the incentive of earnings from referring visitors to Sugmug - which charges per month what Ipernity charges per year! - was a deciding factor in the slant of the review.
Ipernity does not try to be everything to everyone. It is a membership website where users who register for a paid account become its 'owners' and have a say in the development of the site during annual AGMs.
Ipernity is a photo-sharing site, Full stop! You can also write 'articles' (a kind of blogging thing) if you want and upload both photos or videos.
You can join others with similar interests in themed groups, or take part in fun challenges, all in a chilled, nice, friendly way.
If you are wanting to play with AI, create online portfolios, pay through the nose in the hope that you'll sell your photos, by all means, check out other platforms. If like me, you enjoy a nice friendly environment where other will actually look at your photos and make meaningful comments, then Ipernity is there for you!
If you like the idea of discovering the world through the photos of the people who actually live over there... well, Ipernity is there for you, with its translation facility, it also allows for communication across cultures and languages...
