Editor's Review:

If you’ve not heard of Walmart then which rock have you been hiding under? It’s a major US retailer, with stores across the lands, offering a wide range of value goods and services. Well, now you can store your photos online using Walmart Photos, and use the site to order prints and gifts. These can be delivered or you can collect them in store.

The main system for uploading photos is to use your web browser and simply select the photos from your laptop. This means you’ll need to upload photographs from your camera onto your laptop first, of course. Another option is to email them to Walmart and they’ll add them to your account. This might be useful if you’ve taken a snap on your phone, although it is a somewhat slow process if you have a lot of pictures on a mobile device which you’d like to email and upload.

Alternatively, you can go in store and use the kiosks there to upload your pictures. You’ll need the SD card from your camera if you wish to do this. Going in store isn’t a bad idea though, as you can order prints online and collect them within the hour, or later that day. Since you’ll save on postage, this could work out as a quicker and cheaper option.

Sharing options are a little limited on this site. You essentially have to email photos to friends or family, or send them a link. There appear to be no social network sharing options. Viewers can leave comments on photos, which is a nice way to connect with family and friends you haven’t seen in a while.

As with sharing options, editing options are also a bit limited. You’ll find all the usual options such as cropping (cutting out the sides) or adding borders, but if you want to do a lot of editing then you might wish to look elsewhere. We particularly liked the digital frames and borders that you can add to photos, making them seem a bit more fun.

You can choose from over 100 different gifts and unique photo items. You simply choose the item you like, choose your photo, orientate the image and make an order. This is quick and simple, and the choice of gifts is pretty substantial. If you have old VHS tapes, or wish to transfer digital videos to a DVD, this is also possible, and is a great way of making sure you don’t lose old home videos when technology becomes redundant (come on, who still has a VHS?!)

Over all, this is a decent site for creating gifts or prints, but it doesn’t really do a great job in other areas, such as uploading and sharing. At least it offers unlimited space for your photographs online, but you do have to make an annual purchase to keep your membership going.
