Attractive layout

Reviewer: Isisbridge from Oxford, England

Ipernity is more traditional than some of the better known sites. Images are displayed on a single-colour background with the minimum of visual clutter, so that the mind can focus on the picture rather than the hieroglyphics around it. Very easy to use, with straightforward navigation and no endless scrolling, and the customer support is excellent. An additional advantage is that you can publish short videos and written articles too. So well worth the modest subscription. The only con is that it's not getting enough coverage on the search engines, but that may change as more people join.

In summary, I would recommend Ipernity to a friend.

Diverse, lively community with excellent features
11 October 2020
Reviewer: Askvirgola from Florence, Italy

42 of 77 people found this review helpful

Well designed, elegant and uncluttered display pages, easy to use, with thematic groups for all types of photographic interests are the first impressions. But this is also a very social, lively and diverse community, where people take the time to really look at your photos and often leave helpful, articulate comments. An integrated translator allows you to dialogue with ease with speakers of 11 different languages. Owned by its members through a non-profit association, Ipernity provides excellent, timely support for fixing problems and welcomes, in fact positively seeks out, suggestions for improvements. Smaller than some of the big photo sharing communities, it feels more like a large town than a big metropolis, but its members come from all over the world, contributing not only great images from far away places but also a diversity of perspectives. Four account levels, ranging from free of charge guest accounts to plus accounts with unlimited storage, give you the option of choosing the one that best fits your needs and your billfold.

In summary, I would recommend Ipernity to a friend.

A lively, strong, member owned international community
08 October 2020
Reviewer: Annalia S. from Italy

Ipernity's most striking difference from other photo sharing sites is that it is owned and managed by a non profit association made up of its own members. And it shows. It shows in the way it has designed, and recently further improved, the tastefully and cleanly organized photo display, in both the individual photo pages and in galleries. It shows in the way the community has evolved to accomodate members' needs and suggestions rather than profit-driven choices. It show in the lively, welcoming, open and fully transparent community life that benefits from the presence of members from many countries all over the world.

As a non-commercial not-for-profit platform, Ipernity does not offer things like prints and gifts, nor does it commercialize your images. It offers instead great options as to the degree of dispersion you wish to give your photos: from completely private to shared only among family and friends, to public. It allows up-loading of images, videos, documents and audio files and makes it easy to exchange comments and views at the international level by means of an integrated translation device.

I came to Ipernity from a 6 year membership at a very large, well known and widely respected site that... (Read the full review)

A photographic site run by photographers
06 September 2020
Reviewer: John F. from Ontario, Canada

Ipernity's screens are well designed, and the other items on the screen for individual photographs do not distract attention from the photo -- this is one of the most important reasons I left Flickr, whose redesigned screens were so poorly designed that attention was drawn away from the photograph, destroying the composition of the photo. Occasionally -- very occasionally -- there are problems with uploads, but they get fixed quickly, and I have never gone to the site only to be told it was unavailable, as I often have been with Flickr.

They do not provide print or gift options, but I've found that these options are not particularly useful.

Ipernity is run by photographers and unsurprisingly understands how photographers would like to see photos presented.

In summary, I would recommend Ipernity to a friend.

Great photo site

When Flickr changed drastically I was looking for a simple, easy to use platform to host my photos. Ipernity was that site. I pay for the unlimited uploads, but I feel like it's worth the money.

Why Be a Part of Anywhere Else??

I have been a member of IPERNITY since the Pink & Blue added random unwelcome difficult to use 'improvements' in 2013.

I find IPERNITY is straight forward to use, it displays my photos well, has an excellent search tool whether for my photos or photos generally. The folder - album - photo organisation is good to use. The Whats Hot gives a good feel for trending photos recently added. There are no speed issues, the upload and download work well. The sharing of private photos among my internationally located family is excellentlly manageable there. IPERNITY is also a second, off-site back up place for my better and best photos. The community of members is great. I see no negatives. Why display elsewhere?

With IPERNITY I have the opportunity to participate in its development as it is a co-operative and I am a part-owner.

In summary, I would recommend Ipernity to a friend.

Reviewer: Freestone from Switzerland

One of the best photo sites with great members and contacts. The site is owned by its own community, which makes it unique.

that the site is not commercial und keinem Gewinnstreben unterworfen ist , von den Nutzern selber geführt wird

there is nothing that I have noticed so far as being disadvantageous or even faulty

In summary, I would recommend Ipernity to a friend.

Long Live Ipernity
10 October 2018

I have been a member of Ipernity since (almost) day 1; I also had an account with Yahoo's Flickr, Panoramio, 1px, and many others before the whole internet madness for photo-sharing etc took off.

However, whereas Flickr and so many others sold out to corporate greed, tried to replicate Facebook cyber-hegemony, envisioning the millions of dollars that could be raised from the hapless and brainwashed masses, Ipernity remained true to itself throughout the years: a photo sharing platform, as well as a site where you could develop friendships if you wanted (no bullying into having to take on the 'social' aspect of it), use the site to stash your videos or even other documents if you wanted, and even write a blog-type 'Articles'...

Someone said 'for years Ipernity suffered badly' as if it had been an intrinsic problem of the site and site owners. While I agree that the take over of the management of the site by the Ipernity Members Association - yes, you read right, it is run by its own members, not by some multimillion dollars US corporation!!! - has led to improvements, I believe that the site and previous team had simply suffered, to the point...
